15 – 26 April 2019
Oulu – Kuusamo – Suomussalmi – Lieksa – Joensuu
After the long winter, spring starts to arrive to Finland in April. Migrant birds are returning and resident species are actively claiming breeding territories and partners. There is still plenty of snow on the ground, and, for example, the Black Grouse and Capercaillie are lekking on snow. This is also a great time to photograph the large carnivores of Finland on snow – Brown Bear have awaken from their winter hibernation, and while Wolverine stay active throughout the winter, spring is a hectic time for them. With some luck we may also photograph wild Wolves and some of the northern taiga forest owl species – Great Grey Owl or Hawk Owl.
